چکیده
The genus Eumolpianus Smit, 1983, a group of fleas infesting chipmunks mostly in western North America, is reviewed. Its host preferences and distribution are discussed and the relationships of the 7 currently recognized species are examined. It is concluded that E. eumolpi americanus (Hubbard, 1950) is a junior synonym of the nominate species. Although not formally synonymized, it is postulated, based on morphology and geographic distribution, that E. eutamiadis (Augustson, 1942) and E. fornacis (Jordan, 1937) are conspecific, as are E. orarius (Johnson, 1961) and E. wallowensis (Hubbard, 1947) with E. cyrturus (Jordan, 1929). The status of E. polumus (Traub & Johnson, 1952) remains uncertain, but it is evidently a member of the E. cyrturus-group.

A taxonomic review of the Ceratophyllus Curtis, 1832 of North America (Siphonaptera: Ceratophyllidae: Ceratophyllinae).
The 22 North American taxa assigned to the flea genus Ceratophyllus Curtis, 1832, are reviewed. All are parasites of birds and include 17 species in the nominate subgenus, 3 in Emmareus and 2 in Celeophilus. Keys to the subgenera are provided, distinguishing characters of the individual species are discussed and illustrated and the various aspects of distribution and host preferences are cited.
متن کاملA molecular phylogeny of fleas (Insecta: Siphonaptera): origins and host associations
Siphonaptera (fleas) is a highly specialized order of holometabolous insects comprising 2500 species placed in 16 families. Despite a long history of extensive work on flea classification and biology, phylogenetic relationships among fleas are virtually unknown. We present the first formal analysis of flea relationships based on a molecular matrix of four loci (18S ribosomal DNA, 28S ribosomal ...

Gryphopsylla maxomydis n. sp. (Pygiopsyllidae), Medwayella rubrisciurae n. sp. (Pygiopsyllidae) and Macrostylophora theresae n. sp. (Ceratophyllidae) are described from endemic rodents in Sulawesi. Gryphopsylla maxomydis was collected from the murids Maxomys musschenbroekii and Paruromys dominator in Central Sulawesi (Sulawesi Tengah). However, M. musschenbroekii appears to be the true host of ...
متن کاملThe Fleas (Siphonaptera) in Iran: Diversity, Host Range, and Medical Importance
BACKGROUND Flea-borne diseases have a wide distribution in the world. Studies on the identity, abundance, distribution and seasonality of the potential vectors of pathogenic agents (e.g. Yersinia pestis, Francisella tularensis, and Rickettsia felis) are necessary tools for controlling and preventing such diseases outbreaks. The improvements of diagnostic tools are partly responsible for an easi...
متن کاملBacterial communities associated with flea vectors of plague.
The microbial flora associated with fleas may affect their ability to transmit specific pathogens, including Yersinia pestis, and also could be used to develop paratransgenesis-based approaches to interfere with transmission. To begin addressing this hypothesis, the microbial flora associated with the relatively efficient Y. pestis vectors Xenopsylla cheopis (Rothschild) (Siphonaptera: Pulicida...
